Dominique Armani Jones, popularly known as Lil Baby, is an American rapper. He was born in southwestern Atlanta and raised by his mother.

After dropping out of Booker T. Washington High School in ninth grade, Lil Baby committed to drug dealing. Between early 2012 and 2014, he was severely caught and charged with possession of marijuana with intent to sell and was incarcerated for two years. At 17, Lil Baby regularly hung out in the studio of Atlanta-based Quality Control Records as a drug dealer. The label owner Kevin "Coach K" Lee encouraged him to become a rapper.

In April 2017, Lil Baby released his first mixtape, Perfect Timing, with appearances from Young Thug and Lil Yachty. He rose to music fame after releasing two mixtapes, Harder than Hard and Too Hard, later in 2017. "My Dawg," the lead single on the Harder than Hard mixtape, earned him his first Billboard Hot 100 entry.

As his career gained momentum, Lil Baby signed with Quality Control Music, an imprint of Motown and Capitol Records, before releasing his debut studio album (Harder Than Ever) in 2018. It peaked at #3 on the Billboard 200, and he also earned another top ten spot in the Billboard Hot 100 chart for "Yes Indeed" featuring Drake.

His second album, My Turn, dropped in 2020. This album debuted #1 on the Billboard 200, received quadruple platinum certification by the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA), and became the best-selling album of that year. The project had several hit songs including "We Paid" (featuring 42 Dugg) and "The Bigger Picture," which both peaked in the top ten of the Billboard Hot 100.

In 2021, Lil Baby dropped The Voice of the Heroes, a collaborative album with Chicago rapper Lil Durk, which peaked on the Billboard 200. He won a Grammy Award for Best Melodic Rap Performance through his guest appearance on "Hurricane" by Kanye West and the Weeknd. Aside from a Grammy Award, Lil Baby also won an MTV Video Music Award, two BET Awards, and the all-genre Artist of the Year at the 2020 Apple Music Awards.

Lil Baby’s third successful album, “It's Only Me,” dropped in 2022, peaking the chart again. Some of his top songs include The Bigger Picture, Sum 2 Prove, In A Minute, Drip Too Hard (featuring Gunna), and Woah.

How Does Lil Baby Beat Sounds?

Lil Baby's main music genre is hip-hop and trap.

He is known for his unrefined songwriting depicting the intricacies of street life, melodic singing, and mumble rap style with autotune and various flows.

Lil Baby type beat is mostly melodic, characterized by deep 808 basslines, predictable patterns with hard-hitting drums, and sticking to the formulas of the original Atlanta trap music sound. His beats often have an orchestral feel with bright horns, intense pianos, catchy guitar riffs, and dark synth pads.

Most Atlanta-based artists such as Young Thug, Gunna, Future, and Rich Homie Quan have a similar taste in type of beats.
