Jarad Anthony Higgins, popularly known as Juice WRLD, is an American rapper and singer-songwriter from Calumet Park, Illinois. He was born on December 2, 1998, in Chicago and grew up in the south suburbs before later moving to Homewood.

During his childhood and teen years, Juice was introduced to drugs and became a heavy drug user. He drank lean for the first time in the sixth grade, used Percocet, Xanax and smoked cigarettes while in high school. He also learned to play the piano, guitar, and drums at a young age, thanks to his mother who paid for his lessons. While in his sophomore year of high school, he began recording on his smartphone, posting songs to SoundCloud and taking rapping more seriously.

In 2015, Juice WRLD began his career as an independent artist while still using the stage name JuiceTheKidd. He signed a recording contract with Grade A Productions and Interscope Records in 2017. He later switched his stage name to Juice WRLD, which represents "taking over the world" gotten from the crime thriller film Juice.


He gained massive recognition for his hit single "Lucid Dreams" which earned him a diamond certification and peaked at #2 on the US Billboard Hot 100. The song was included on his triple platinum debut album titled Goodbye & Good Riddance (2018) which had multiple other songs that charted on the Hot 100.

 

Later on in 2018, Juice did a collaboration mixtape with Future titled Wrld on Drugs. He then dropped his second album, Death Race for Love, in 2019 containing hit single "Robbery" which become became his first #1 debut on the US Billboard 200.

On December 8, 2019, Juice WRLD died of a drug overdose at age 21 while just starting to make his mark in the music industry. His first posthumous album, Legends Never Die was released in 2020 and broke records for most successful posthumous debut and most top-ten Billboard entries from one album. His second posthumous album, Fighting Demons, was released in 2021 alongside the documentary Juice Wrld: Into the Abyss.

Throughout his career, Juice WRLD has received over 124 platinum certificates from the RIAA. He earned several award nominations from American Music Awards, BET Awards, BET Hip-Hop Awards, Billboard Music Awards, iHeartRadio Music Awards, and MTV Video Music Awards.
