Candy Kilo, an emerging artist and songwriter from Jersey City, has a heartfelt story that fuels her music. Though she worked behind the scenes in the industry for years, it wasn’t until her mother’s cancer diagnosis that she discovered her talent as an artist.
Candy Kilo’s start in music
I started rapping as a verbal diary to help with my anxiety and emotions. As an only child with few friends, music became my way to vent, express my fears, and share my desires. When I released my first album in August 2024, I realized I was meant to be an artist. The emotional reactions from listeners who connected with my music, especially those dealing with the loss of a loved one or life struggles, were unimaginably rewarding. Knowing my music resonates deeply with others is an amazing feeling.
Discovering SOUNDRAW as an independent rap artist
I found SOUNDRAW through an On the Radar post on Instagram. As an independent artist funding everything myself, I love that SOUNDRAW offers a flat rate for unlimited beats. It gives me control over my music production and saves money for other things like marketing or recording sessions.
I’ve created a few songs using SOUNDRAW, but the one that’s gotten the most love is 'Losing Time.' It’s unreleased for now but will be part of my next album, The Kilo Effect, dropping Spring 2025. I actually created the beat for 'Losing Time' on my lunch break at work! Thanks to SOUNDRAW, I was able to create and record the song in just one day.
SOUNDRAW gave me the chance to compete in the RAW RAP CHALLENGE, winners perform at On The Radar. Even though I didn’t win, the experience pushed me to work even harder on my music and writing. Overall, SOUNDRAW has completely transformed my approach to music. It’s made me a full-fledged producer, and that connection to my music feels incredible.
The SOUNDRAW experience: the best AI beat generator
SOUNDRAW eliminates the endless search for beats and the high costs associated with buying them.
I can just select my mood, BPM, and instruments to create magic in minutes. It’s helped me feel more connected to my music, knowing I’m now involved in the full production process. I even consider myself a producer now!
Advice for Others and how to improve SOUNDRAW
My advice is to use SOUNDRAW to create something special to you. Don’t try to recreate sounds that already exist—use this platform to make something unique and rewarding.
I’d love to see more variety in instruments, backings, and drums. After a while, some things can feel repetitive. Adding genres like Brazilian Funk or Baile Funk would also be amazing!
